23 May 2000: Curt Achberger, Executive Director of the Republican Party of Alaska, reports that "our entire delegation is enthusiastically supporting G W Bush for President".

The Popular Vote above is based on official returns from the 24 January Straw Poll (100% of the Precincts reporting).

Monday 24 January 2000: Republican Party Caucuses meet in each precinct. Each Precinct Caucus chooses the precinct's delegates to the Election District Caucuses.

  • "There is no formal system applied in the Precinct Caucuses to relate the presidential preference of the Caucus participants to the choice of the precinct's delegates to the District Caucus of the Election District in which the precinct is located. The participants at each Precinct Caucus alone determine if presidential preference is to be a factor in such choice and, if so, how it is to be applied."

(There is to be a nonbinding "Straw Poll" held in conjunction with these Caucuses... I'm sure the media will be drooling over the results of this as well as the numbers coming out of Iowa that night even though, again, no National Convention delegates will be chosen herein).

No earlier than Wednesday 23 February 2000 through no later than Wednesday 19 April 2000: Republican Party District Caucuses convene in each Election District. Each Election District chooses delegates to the Alaska State Republican Convention.

  • "District Caucuses choose the election district's delegates to the Alaska State Republican Convention. Again, there is no formal system applied in the District Caucus to relate the presidential preference of the District Caucus delegates to the choice of the election district's delegates to the Alaska State Republican Convention. The delegates in attendance at each District Caucus alone determine if presidential preference is to be a factor and, if so, how it is to be applied."

Friday 19 May and Saturday 20 May 2000: The Alaska State Republican Convention convenes. The State Convention chooses all 23 delegates from Alaska to the Republican National Convention.

  • "There is no formal system of allocating Alaska's National Convention delegates to presidential contenders. (Only as of 19 May will ANY of Alaska's 23 Republican National Convention delegates have been allocated to presidential contenders: it is quite probable that the field of Republican presidential contenders on 19 May might very well be very different from the way that same field looked at the time the Alaska Precinct Caucuses took place back on 24 January!)"
