Seat up for special election: Tuesday 16 August 2022 Special Election - 18 March 2022: Member of Congress Donald E. "Don" Young, 88, passed away. A special general election has been called to fill the seat for the remainder of the term ending in January 2023. The filing deadline is 1 April, the special (mostly vote-by-mail) primary is 11 June, and the special (vote in-person or by-mail) general election is 16 August (concurrent with the date of the regular primary). The top 4 vote-getters regardless of party in the 11 June primary will advance to the 16 August runoff/general election. The special election is a ranked choice. Seat up for special election: Tuesday 7 June 2022 Special Election - Caused by the resignation of Member of Congress Devin Gerald Nunes (Republican) announced 6 December 2021: "Recently, I was presented with a new opportunity ... and therefore I will be leaving the House of Representatives at the end of 2021...." He formally resigned on 1 January 2022 to become CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group. Governor Gavin Newsom (Democratic) will call a special election. 7 January 2022: Governor Gavin Newsom (Democratic) called a Special Primary for 5 April and Special Election for 7 June. All candidates, both party members and independents, participate in a 5 April non-partisan Special Primary. If one candidate receives a majority (50% + 1) of the primary vote, that candidate is elected. Otherwise, the top two vote getters, regardless of party, advance to the 7 June Special General Election. Seat up for special election: Tuesday 8 November 2022 Special Election - 10 August 2022: Governor Eric Joseph Holcomb (Republican) called a special election (Executive Order 22-12) to fill the vacant seat of Member of Congress Jackie Walorski (Republican), who died on 3 August 2022. The special election is concurrent with the 8 November general election and the winner will fill the seat through 3 January 2023. There is no primary. The Republican precinct committee will hold caucuses on 20 August 2022 to select their nominees for the special and general elections.
