UNIFORM STATE RULES OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF NEW MEXICO from the Republican Party of New Mexico. No later than 15 February 2024, the Chief Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court will chair a committee meeting to nominate and certify to the Secretary of State the names of all presidential candidates "generally advocated and nationally recognized or supported by any major political party in the state as candidates of the major political parties participating in the presidential primary." 16 March 2024: Presidential candidate petition filing deadline (alternative to the committee meeting). Monday 4 March - Sunday 24 March 2024: County Conventions meet to elect delegates to the State Convention. [Article 3-2-1(A)].

Saturday 27 April 2024: The State Convention convenes to choose 19 delegates to the Republican National Convention. Delegate Selection: Delegate Selection Caucus/Convention. Voter Eligibility: Closed Caucus/Convention. Voting for delegates is by secret ballot. [Rules Article 2-2-1(A)(2) and 2-2-10(D)(4)] There is no formal system to relate the presidential preference of the Convention participants to the choice of the delegates to the Republican Convention.
National Convention Delegates are bound for the 1st ballot unless released by the candidate. "The provisions of this section ... apply only to the first nominating ballot cast ... delegations may be released prior to the first ballot ... upon death of the candidate or upon his written unconditional release of such votes allotted to him ..." [New Mexico Statutes §1-15A-9(d)] |
