Presidential Primaries are held on dates set by each party no later than 1 December of the year prior to the General Election. [Article 8.6.a. (16 L.P.R.A. § 4646) (2)]

Ratification of the delegates to the Republican National Convention from the Partido Republicano de Puerto Rico.

23 Delegates from Puerto Rico are Chosen for the Republican National Convention to Formally Nominate Donald Trump as the Republican Party's Presidential Candidate from the Partido Republicano de Puerto Rico.


   

Voting in the primary is limited to Republican Delegates.

Sunday 21 April 2024: Puerto Rico Party-run Primary. Hours 9:00a-3:00p AST (1300-1900 UTC). Delegate Selection: Winner-Take-Most Primary. Voter Eligibility: Closed Primary.

All of 23 of Puerto Rico's delegates to the Republican National Convention are bound to the presidential contenders based on the island-wide vote. [Rules of the Republican Party 16(c)(3)(i) and (ii)]

  • If a Presidential candidate receives 50% or more of the island wide vote, that candidate receives all 23 delegates.
  • Otherwise, the delegates are allocated to each candidate receiving 20% or more of the island wide vote in proportion to the total vote of all candidates receiving 20% or more of the island wide. Rounding rules are not known.

Delegates are directly elected on the primary ballot and are bound for the 1st ballot at the national convention. Voters can up to 20 delegates and can vote for delegates of any candidate.

In addition, 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Puerto Rico's Republican Party, will attend the convention as pledged delegates by virtue of their position.
