Nomination note: In UTAH, where a single candidate has already received the support of more than 50% to 60% of the delegates at the Party Convention (the percentage itself is set by the Party), that candidate receives the Party's nomination. Otherwise, the top two vote getters at the Convention advance to the Primary. The "Count My Vote" laws lets candidates skip the convention and appear on the primary ballot. Independents are allowed to participate in party primaries. Conventions are held by the Constitution, Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican Parties prior to the primary. |

11 August 2009: State Senator Gregory S. "Greg" Bell enters office as Lieutenant Governor. Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. (Republican) resigned to become Ambassador to China causing Lieutenant Governor Gary R. Herbert (Republican) to ascend to the Governor's Chair. 1 September 2009: Lieutenant Governor Bell is unanimously confirmed by the Utah Senate. He was first elected in a special election in 2010 and re-elected in 2012. 16 September 2013: Lieutenant Governor Bell announces his resignation- "... I have decided it's time to step down and return to the employment market.". Governor Gary R. Herbert will name a replacement, who will be confirmed by the state Senate. Lieutenant Governor Bell will remain on the job until the confirmation. 16 October 2013: The Utah State Senate confirms state Representative Spencer J. Cox (Republican) as the new Lieutenant Governor. | |||||
