Thursday 26 October 2006: Arizona State Treasurer David Petersen resigned today and plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of failing to report commissions he had received. Governor Janet Napolitano will then appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of Petersen's term: Arizona is electing a State Treasurer in next month's Election who will not take office until the following January. Under Arizona law, the replacement must be of the same Party as the person who had vacated the office: thus, because Petersen was a Republican, Napolitano- although a Democrat- will have to appoint a Republican to the post. | |||||
