20 March 2020: Due to the COVID-19 virus, Governor Eric Holcomb, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Republican Party Chair Kyle Hupfer, and Democratic Party Chair John Zody announced an agreement to move the date of this year's Indiana primary election from 5 May to 2 June. Ballots must be received by 2 June.

This Presidential Primary coincides with a state/local primary. These coinciding primaries tend to have an impact upon voter turnout.

Participation in Indiana's delegate selection process is open to all voters who wish to participate as Democrats. Voters wishing to declare their Democratic Party preference at the polls must ask for a Democratic ballot and sign a document establishing their new party preference.

Tuesday 2 June 2020: Indiana Primary. Hours reportedly 6:00a-6:00p EDT (1000-2200 UTC) / 6:00a-6:00p CDT (1100-2300 UTC). Although a portion of this state is in CT, the majority of the polls are closed by the time indicated ET when the networks feel they can project. Delegate Pledging: Proportional Primary. Voter Eligibility: Open Primary.

82 of 89 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's Indiana Presidential Primary. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates at either the congressional district or statewide level.   • 55 district delegates are to be allocated proportionally to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the State's 9 congressional districts.
  • 27 delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary vote statewide.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, Online voting will take place from 13-17 June. District delegate votes will be tabulated on 18 June and on 19 June, the District Delegates will choose the PLEO and At-Large delegates.

The National Convention delegates are elected according to the results of the primary.

The remaining 7 National Convention delegates consist of

  • 7 Unpledged PLEO delegates:
    • 5 Democratic National Committee members.
    • 2 Members of Congress (0 Senators and 2 Representatives).
    • 0 Governors.
    • 0 Distinguished Party Leaders.

These 7 delegates and will go to the Democratic National Convention officially "Unpledged".
