Participation in Delaware's delegate selection process is open to all voters who are registered to vote as Republicans. "Pursuant to Delaware State Law, in the event that only one candidate files for a party’s nomination by the filing deadline and no additional candidates are added to the ballot, or in the event one or more filed candidate(s) who have not withdrawn prior to the deadline subsequently withdraw or publicly announce they are suspending or ending their respective candidacies or campaigns no later than 14 days prior to the primary election, leaving one candidate as the sole active filed candidate, that candidate shall be considered as having received 100% of the vote for that party’s presidential primary election automatically upon the expiration of the filing deadline and thus declared the winner of that election. Tuesday 2 April 2024: Delaware Primary (cancelled because uncontested). Hours 7:00a-8:00p EDT (1100-0000 UTC). Delegate Selection: Winner-Take-All Primary. Voter Eligibility: Closed Primary.
All 16 of Delaware's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes statewide in today's Delaware Presidential Primary. [Rules of the Republican Party of the State Of Delaware. Article XI. Section 3.] The 3 party leaders delegates (the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Delaware's Republican Party) will attend the National Convention, by virtue of their position, bound to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the Presidential primary. All Delegates are bound to vote for the winner of the primary on the 1st ballot. If the winning candidate withdraws, dies, or otherwise releases his or her delegates or there are subsequent ballots, then each delegate may vote for any other presidential candidate. The State Convention elects the National Convention delegates according to the results of the primary. 21 July 2023: (SB 140) SB 149 was signed on by Governor John Charles Carney, Jr. (Democratic). The Presidential Primary is moved from the 4th to the 1st Tuesday in April (2 April 2024) for 2024 only. |
