This Presidential Primary coincides with a state/local primary. These coinciding primaries tend to have an impact upon voter turnout. Voters wishing to declare their Republican Party preference at the polls must ask for a Republican ballot and sign a document establishing their new party preference. Tuesday 7 May 2024: Indiana Primary. Hours reportedly 6:00a-6:00p EDT (1000-2200 UTC) / 6:00a-6:00p CDT (1100-2300 UTC). Although a portion of this state is in CT, the majority of the polls are closed by the time indicated ET when the networks feel they can project. Delegate Selection: Winner-Take-All (district and statewide) Primary. Voter Eligibility: Open Primary.
All 58 of Indiana's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders in today's Indiana Presidential Primary.
The 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Indiana's Republican Party, will attend the National Convention by virtue of their position, bound to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes statewide. "A delegate ... shall on the first ballot at the national convention support the candidate who received the highest number of votes ... if the presidential candidate is ... a candidate at the convention." [Rules of the Indiana Republican State Committee 9-2, 9-6; Indiana Code 3-8-3-11] |
